Se on keltainen! Se on takki! / It's yellow! And it's a jacket!

Laika osti helmikuussa Lankabaarin alennusmyynnistä kilon keltaista eskimoa, aloitti siitä itselleen takkia ja joutui toteamaan että paksu villa ei sovi hänelle. Adoptoin langat ja neuloin dropsin a-linjaisen takin joka vilahteli vähän siellä sun täällä viime syksynä.

Laika bought 20 skeins of Garnstudio eskimo from our LYS in february and started knitting a jacket from them but noticed soon that eskimo is too bulky for her so I adopted the yarns. I knitted the a-shaped drops cardi that Everyone knitted last year.

Aivan ihana takki! Oli nopea neuloa, valmistumista hidasti paksut puikot joiden kanssa ei voinut neuloa kuin tunnin kerrallaan ja sitten tuli käsikivut. Eskimo oli mukavaa neulottavaa, tätä voisi hankkia lisääkin.

The jacket is so wonderful! It was fast to knit, although it took quite a long time to finish this since my hands didn't like knitting with thick needles. Eskimo is nice to knit with, I might buy some more at some point.

Kuvissa vilahtelee useampi pieni assistentti, parvekkeen oven kun avaa niin sinne ryntää koko joukko. Ja kun saa yhden sisään, toinen tunkee takaisin ulos. Onneksi osaavat olla kiltisti joten voi antaa olla parvekkeella kun kuvaa.

You can see all of our little assistants in the pictures, when you open the balcony door, they all run there. And when you get one back inside, other one is already going out. But they behave well so they can stay at the balcony while we take pictures.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
All natural fibers (cotton, wool, alpaca, bamboo, silk etc). Acrylic is something I don't like, there needs to be at least 50% natural fibers in it.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I have a needle case for my dnp's and a box for circulars.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've been knitting for almost all of my life, my Grandmother teached me when I was a child, there has been years with out me knitting anyhting but last 3 years I've been knitting constantly. I would say my skills are advanced.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
I do have an Amazon whis list.

5. What's your favorite scent?
Mm, fruity scents like strawberry.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Yes! Chocolate and jelly beans are my favorites.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I spin, althoug that has been on a break for while now since my drop spindle has some problems.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I love indie such as Placebo, the Arcade Fire, Counting crows and my computer plays MP3s.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand?
Green, brown, yellow, fuchsia, purple, teal. I don't like pastel colors.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I'm married and I love my wife a lot. We have 3 cats and a dog, they're our babies. :D

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Mittens, hats, scarves are my favorite assesories.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Socks, shawls, pullovers. I love knitting almost everything. :D

13. What are you knitting right now?
February lady sweater for my Mother-in-law, Central park hoodie for myself, Flower basket shawl, a pair of gloves.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Yes, I would love to.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Circular. I have some knit picks harmony needles and I adore them.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Yes, both.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?
About 6 months or so, I try to make sure I don't have UFO's but sometimes something just gets stuck and comes an UFO.

18. What is your favorite holiday? What winter holiday do you observe?
Christmas! I love giving and receiving presents.

19. Is there anything that you collect?
Books, all kind of, knitting related naturally but I do read a lot. I collect needles and yarn as well. :D

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
Norah Gaughan's booklets are on my wish list, I would love to have them. I subscibe IK and buy always Vogue Knitting.

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
I would love to learn more color work, I have done some and want to get better in that.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes I am! I wear size 39(european)/7(U:S) shoes and my foot is 24cm/10,5" long.

Isälle / For my dad

Viime joulun alla isäni meinasi ostaa kaupasta villasukkia. Järkytyin ja tajusin että isän sukkavarastot ovat varmaan käyneet vähiin kun Mamma ei enää kykene neulomaan. Aloitin projektin nimeltä Pidän isäni itsetehdyissä villasukissa. Projektin toinen pari valmistui eilen!

My dad was going to buy wool socks last christmas! I was shocked and realised that his sock stash must be quite small since Grandmother can't knit anymore. So I started project Make sure your dad has enough hand knitted socks. Second pair to that project is done!

Ohjeessa on käytetty ohutta lankaa, itse päädyin tekemään nallesta kun silmukkamäärä täsmäsi ja isän pieneen 45 kokoiseen jalkaan sukkalangasta tikuttaminen on tuskaa. Kiva malli, toimi hyvin tämmöisestä pätkärääkätystä langasta. Pientä lätäköitymistä esiintyi mutta ei mitään minkä kanssa ei voisi elää.

The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, I decided to knit mine from dk-weight since the stitch amount matched and knitting socks from fingering weight yarn is torture when your dad's shoe size is 45. A nice pattern, worked really well from variated yarn. There is some pooling but nothing sifnicant.

From ravelry's karma swap I claimed these 3 skeins that will become somekind of hat.



Ja postista hain juuri paketin Markalta. Markan mies oli niin kiltti että askarteli meillekin tuommoiset ihanat sukan pingottimet. Kauniit semmoiset. Ja samassa paketissa tuli 200g markalle puhumatonta lankaa, 100g teetee eleganttia josta tulee Juno Regina ja Markan itsensä värjäämää vintage-novitaa. Markan suuntaan lähtee täältä kiitospakettia näistä ihanuuksista jossain kohtaa!

And I got a package from Markka. Markkas significant other was kind enough to make a pair of sock bloggers for us as well. Very pretty ones. And there was also 200g of yarn that didn't speak to Markka, 100g of Teetee Elegant, which will be Juno Regina some day and vintage novita yarn that she has dyed herself. I'll be sending something to Markka as a thank you for these lovely things.

sukka-asiaa / sock things

Monessa blogissa on esitelty Mustaa villaa-blogin innoittamana sukkalankavarastoja joten kaivoin minäkin laatikot kaapista.

Mustaa villaa has inspired many bloggers to show their sock yarn stash and here is my stash.


Laskin varastoni, sukkalankaa on varastossa yli neljä kiloa! Ja tuossa neljässä kilossa on vain ohutta sukkalankaa. Eli jokusen parin siitä saan.


I have over 4 kg of sock yarn in my stash! And it's all thin sock yarn so there is a few pairs of socks in that pile.



Yksi laatikoista on varattu ns. luksuslangoille, niille joista ei raaski neuloa vaan joita vaan välillä silittelee huokaillen. Sieltä löytyy mm Noron sukkalankaa, Dream in color smooshyä, araucania rancoa ja schoppel-wollea (eli kotoisasti kissalankaa, vyötteessä kun on kissa).

One box is reserved to so called luxus yarns, those you can't get your self to knit but instead you just fondle them every now and then. There is Noro kureoyn sock yarn, Dream in color smooshy, araucania ranco and schoppel-wolle (or kitty-yarn as we say since it has a kitty on the label).


Sitten on laatikollinen jossa on sekä jämiä että kokonaisia keriä mm Katia laine nylonia, hjerten sukkalankaa, Gedifran puuvillasukkalankaa, lidlin sukkalankaa.

Then there is a box of scrap yarns and hole skeins, for example katia laine nylon, hjerte 4 sock, gedifra cotton sock yarn, Lidl's sock yarn.


Ja laatikollinen kokonaisia keriä, täältä löytyy ainakin Knot another knitterin bamboozlea, flotte sockea ja trekkingiä. Eli kolme laatikkoa on tungettu täyteen sukkalankaa. Ja lisää haluaisin ostaa koko ajan. Taidan olla sukkalanka-addikti. Myönnän!

And there is a box with full skeins, here is at least knot another knitter's bamboozle, flotte socke and trekking xxl. So I have 3 boxes sock yarn, boxes that are Very Full. And I want to buy more. I think I'm a sock yarn addict. I admit!

Mutta yritystä on myös neuloa pois varastoja, aloitin viikolla isälle Jules-sukat Nalle colorista, toivottavasti nämä valmistuvat ajoissa isänpäiväksi.

But I'm trying to knit socks from my stash, I started Jules socks for my dad this week, I'm hoping I'll have this done for Father's day.


Ja koska on marraskuu, käynnissä on myös NaKniSweMo (National Knit Sweater Month) jossa tämän vuoden tavoitteeni on neuloa anopin Helmikuutakki ihanaisesta shibusta. Alkuun jo pääsin ja hyvässä vauhdissa mennään, tänä vuonna aion onnistua!

And nowember means NaKniSweMo where my project is to knit Lady february for my MIL from Ella rae shibu. I have already started and I'm going to make it this year!

Ameriikan herkkuja / Goodies from America

Postisetä oli tuonut paketin! Laikalta tuli viestiä ollessani kaupungilla että paketti tuli ja vaikuttaisi olevan vaihtopaketti. Tuli kauhee kiire kotiin kattomaan mitä siellä paketissa on. :D

I got a package from the mail man! Laika text messaged me since I was meeting my mom when the package came and said that it looks like it could be swap related. After that I was in a hurry to get home to see my package. :D

Paketti tosiaan oli vaihdosta, osallistuin ravelryn kautta world yarn swappiin ja sain ihania Ameriikan herkkuja!

It was my swap package, I participated in world yarn swap in Ravelry and I got lots of goodies from America!




Ihana ihana paketti! Josta oli muuten tosi vaikea ottaa kuvia ilman että niissä näkyy Tarkastaja Pirk, tämä paketti piti tarkastaa Erittäin Tarkkaan!

Awesome package! Our Inspector Pirk inspected it Very Carefully and it was difficult to take pictures with out the dog on them!

There was a cute notebook, knit picks harmony cable needles and hand cream.

Grûn ist die hoffnung

Grün ist die hoffnung-sukat on valmiit! Ja vaikeat kuvattavat. Kokeilen nyt ensimmäistä kertaa Picasan kollaasia, josko se toisi parhaiten esiin nuo sukat (klikkaamalla kuvaa sen saa isommaksi). Mielenkiintoiset neulottavat kyllä, toista paria en kyllä ihan heti tee, nuo lyhennetyt kerrokset meinasivat syödä hermot kokonaan. Mutta lopputulos on kaunis. Joten nautin siitä ja toivon että nämä ovat saajalleen mieluisat.

Grün ist die Hoffnung socks are done! And really hard to photograph. This is my first time I used picasa's collage option, hopefully it shows the best of these socks ( you'll get a bigger picture if you click the photo). Very interesting pattern to knit, I won't knit another any time soon though, I don't like that much short rows. But the end result is beautiful and I hope that they'll make the reciever happy.

Tein näihin ranskalaisen kantapään tiimalasin sijaan, muuten menin tasan ohjeen mukaan. Ohje on hyvä ja vaikka jossain kohtaa meinasi loppua usko siihen että sukat noista tulee, niin siinä olikin ohjeen oivallisuus. Hassusta neliöstä tulee kaunis sukka.

I knitted these with a french heel instead of the short row heel the pattern called for. The pattern is great and even I wasn't always sure that these actually will be socks, I knitted as the pattern told me to. And that's the reason why this pattern is so great, it makes a square to a beautiful sock.
